Basketball drills taught by the master of basketball drills - Pistol Pete Maravich. Pete and his father, Press Maravich spent a lifetime developing the basketball drills that turned Pete into the Basketball Hall of Fame Legend, "The Pistol". Now you too can learn the same skills that turned Pete into one of basketball's all time greats! Pictured here, Pete is demonstrating one of his dribbling exercises.
In Pistol Pete's DVD on Dribbling you'll learn lessons on things like why your stance is so important as pictured left. Your stance is your foundation, and if your foundation is not good, then neither is your game. Learn this lesson and many others in Pistol Pete's Homework Basketball Instructional series.
In Pete's Homework Basketball series you will learn from the basic fundamentals of basketball to game breaking strategies that will bring your game to a whole new level. The square "V" dribble is a drill where you practice switching hands while dribbling. This "V" while dribbling is done front to back, side to side, behind the back, and between the legs. This one drill alone if practiced is sure to improve your dribbling skills.
In the movie, "Pistol Pete: The Birth of a Legend", the star of the movie, Adam Guier studied Pete's Homework series as a means to study for the part of playing a young Pete Maravich. If you see the movie, you will certainly see how an actor, not a basketball player, learned skills that made him a huge hit in the movie. Adam Guier pulled off amazing shots, the behind the back passes, and between the legs dribbling that Pistol Pete made famous. If an actor can do it, what can this intense training do for a player or a coach?
It does not matter what skill level or age group you are coaching, the Homework Basketball DVDs are sure to improve the skill level of your team. If you are not coaching basketball and just want to learn from the master, these DVDs are for you. Pictured right, Pete is giving instructions on how to use your arms and body against defenders.
Pete's high-school basketball career did not begin well. Being a short 5"2" tall, ninety pound eighth-grader shooting warm-ups with varsity boys who were five years older and ten to fourteen inches taller left him wide open for jeering and laughing comments from the crowd. Maravich tried to ignore the humiliation, determined to prove his skills on the court. However, his debut game did not go well. Once he passed the ball for the starting play, he rarely got to posses the ball again. It was a terribly frustrating and disappointing first game for Pete, who had never before experienced being cold shouldered by his own team. The next game seemed to be more of the same until the final few seconds. As the clock ran out, there stood Pete, alone and unguarded. Amazingly, the ball was passed to him. As the buzzer sounded, "Pistol" Pete shot from the hip . . . the ball was up and through the hoop for the winning score! MORE ON MARAVICH
